Are you prepared for a hurricane? If you live near a coast, this is one of the most important questions you should ask. It doesn’t matter how powerful the storm is, nor if you live in Florida, the Gulf of Mexico, or the ocean. Any corner of the globe can be hit by a hurricane.

It is important to be prepared for any natural catastrophe. You should make sure your home is strong and resilient to weather extremes. To make sure your roof is safe, it’s best to inspect it on a regular basis.

Next, find out if you home is hurricane-ready. This can be done in many ways. Some will hire an engineer to install a steel reinforcement kit onto their roof. Others will put tar-and-gravel on top of their homes. You also have the option to do it yourself.

You can make your home hurricane-ready by yourself, but you should first inspect the roof. You should first make sure it is securely tied down. This step is often overlooked and can lead to a weak or unstable roof. You can prevent the roof from being blown away by a hurricane by tying it down.

You should also double-check all connections between your roof, your house and any other structures. You should ensure that your watertight connections are strong and well reinforced. This will prevent water from seeping into the connectors.

You can consider your home hurricane-ready, but you should still build your protection. This is where most homeowners fail. Poor hurricane protection decisions can put you in serious danger. It is a terrible thing to leave your home unprotected. You will be more likely to stay safe in a hurricane if you invest a few hundred dollars in protection.
